About the data

• Car information covers names, manufacturers, production years and descriptions, and comes from Wikidata, the structured-data project behind Wikipedia. Its factual data is released under CC0.
• Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons. Each image keeps its own licence, author and attribution, read per-file at import time rather than assumed.
• Some production yearscome from the infobox of a car's English Wikipedia article. Most car models on Wikidata have a photograph but no structured date, so this is the only way they can appear at all. Those years are marked in More info as read from the infobox, because free text is weaker evidence than a structured statement.

The importer asks Wikidata only for items in an explicit allowlist of car-model classes that have both a photograph and a production-style date. A second cleaning pass then builds the game dataset, keeping only records that have a genuine Wikidata ID, a usable name, a valid whole-number start year, a working image URL and a source link.

Records are rejected when they turn out to be:

• generic vehicle categories rather than a specific model
• manufacturers, brands or companies rather than cars
• individual one-off physical vehicles
• fictional cars, toys or scale models
• engines, parts or platforms
• racing teams, race cars or events
• duplicates, or malformed records

Dates are only accepted when Wikidata records them to at least year precision. A value marked as a decade, meaning “the 2000s”, is discarded rather than guessed at, because reading it as an exact year would be inventing data.

Wikidata is crowd-edited and unreviewed. The import process can prove a year is structured and precise; it cannot prove the year is correct. Some entries record the year a model was revealed or announced rather than the year production began, and different editors use the same field to mean different things.

So a round may occasionally mark you wrong when you were right. Every car links directly to its Wikidata page and its Commons image page. Use More info after answering to check any claim yourself, and to correct it at the source if it is wrong.

Coverage is also uneven. Many famous cars are missing simply because nobody has added a precise date to Wikidata, while obscure concept cars are well represented. Concept cars are included: they have real reveal years but never entered production.

Photographs remain the property of their creators and are used under the licence each creator chose. The licence, author and attribution for both cars are shown beneath every answered round and in the More info panel, with a link to the original file page.
